“Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd slammed Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) on Sunday for the congressman’s attempt to suggest that the “liberal” media is trying to divide Republicans by playing up infighting among pro-Trump members of the party and others like Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY), who was removed from House GOP leadership for her refusal to go along with former President Donald Trump’s “big lie” that the 2020 election was stolen.

Crenshaw began by asserting that questions about the last election need to be put aside, which led Todd to remind the Texan that on Saturday Trump had called the 2020 race in which President Joe Biden was victorious the “crime of the century.” The host also brought up the fact that Crenshaw had signed on to a lawsuit that sought to overturn the election results, leading a clearly perturbed Crenshaw to remark:

“You guys in the press painted that as some extreme action and of course it wasn’t.”

Todd retorted:

“I understand you want to put this behind you, but he is the leader of your party and he doesn’t stop talking about this nonsense.”

The congressman replied:

“He’s one of many leaders. You guys in the press love doing this, and I get it. The press is largely liberal…”

To his credit, Todd wasn’t about to let Crenshaw use the tired old line about the media being liberal, and he shut down the congressman:

“Don’t start that. There’s nothing lazier than that excuse.”

But Republicans are lazy. They know they can’t win elections so they try to make laws to keep minorities from voting rather than reaching out to those voters. And the modern GOP would rather follow a twice-impeached one-term ex-president than retake control of their party. They’re scared and angry, so they try to attack others to compensate. Hopefully all of this internal turmoil will finish off the Republican Party once and for all.
