Stuart Stevens is the former chief strategist for Mitt Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign, and he’s warning that if Republicans take control of the House of Representatives in the 2022 midterm elections, Rep Jim Jordan (R-OH) will likely become Speaker of the House instead of House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA).

Referencing a tweet Jordan sent out on Tuesday in which he urged Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine (R) to “ban all vaccine mandates” in the Buckeye State, Stevens wrote:

“If [Republicans] take the House, [GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA)] won’t be Speaker – Jim Jordan will.

“It’s always that way with extremist movements, they eat their own. They’ll put McCarthy’s head on a spike as warning.

“Same story as Night of the Long Knives, The Gang of Four.”

Considering how radicalized and subservient the GOP has become in the Age of Trump, Stevens could well be right. Jordan is one of the most avid congressional acolytes of the failed former president and has defended the Donald’s every action and utterance.

The thought of Jordan as House Speaker drew plenty of responses to the tweet Stevens posted.
