Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) turned his appearance on Fox News Sunday morning into a desperate attempt to raise campaign cash for his struggling reelection effort, insisting that the media was trying to take him out.

Johnson was a guest on “Sunday Morning Futures,” and he began by attacking Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, claiming that media outlets are “complicit” in unspecified wrongdoing by the president’s son:

“We don’t have any impartial mainstream media anymore. They are advocates for the Democrat [sic] Party and now, Maria, quite honestly they’re coming after me! They’re trying to destroy me!”

But that was just a warmup for the full-on whine-fest that Johnson had in store:

“They’ve been trying to destroy me now for two years. Democrats in Congress created a false intelligence product and accused Chuck Grassley and I of disseminating Russian disinformation, leaked that to the media. Of course, the media dutifully complied and smeared us! And now, as I’m trying to run for re-election here, they’re trying to do the exact same things.”

However, things turned utterly pathetic when Johnson began begging viewers to send him money for his campaign:

“I hate to do this, Maria, but I am being attacked. The media is trying to take me out. I need resources.

“If you want us to get to the bottom of this, I’ll become chairman of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations. I need your help to get re-elected so we can expose the truth because the media will not do it.”

Oh yeah, that’s just what this country needs: More inane and pointless investigations like Benghazi that last for years but only succeed in using up taxpayer dollars for the purpose of giving Republicans a soapbox they can shout their fact-free conspiracy theories from.

Ron Johnson promised the voters of his state that he’d only serve two terms in office, but now he’s running for a third. For that alone he deserves to be sent packing.
