The National Rifle Association (NRA) is still getting everything they want out of President Donald Trump as he continued peddling their standard “thoughts and prayers” response after the latest mass shooting in Jersey City.
In yet another deadly incidence of gun violence on Tuesday following the Navy base shooting in Pensacola last week, two gunmen opened fire and at least six are dead, including one of the several police officers who returned fire.
According to the New York Times:
At least six people, including at least one police officer, were killed in Jersey City, N.J., on Tuesday after two people opened fire around a convenience store, officials said, touching off a firefight involving dozens of law enforcement officers that made the residential area take on the feel of a war zone.
There have been more mass shootings in America in 2019 than there have been days in the year.
CBS News reports:
As of December 1, which is the 335th day of the year, there have been 385 mass shootings in the U.S., according to data from the nonprofit Gun Violence Archive (GVA), which tracks every mass shooting in the country. Twenty-nine of those shootings were mass murders.
The GVA defines a mass shooting as any incident in which at least four people are shot, excluding the shooter. The group also tracks mass murders as defined by the FBI — incidents in which at least four people are killed.
This latest shooting only adds to that number.
One would think that Trump and Senate Republicans would immediately take action to prevent gun violence, such as passing and signing a bill the House approved earlier this year that would strengthen background checks. Unfortunately, even Trump is through pretending that he actually cares enough about ending gun violence to actually do something about it, once again merely offering “thoughts and prayers” on Twitter.
Just received a briefing on the horrific shootout that took place in Jersey City, NJ. Our thoughts & prayers are w/ the victims & their families during this very difficult & tragic time. We will continue to monitor the situation as we assist local & state officials on the ground.

Infuriated Americans swiftly rejected Trump’s “thoughts and prayers” and slammed him for being owned by the NRA.
you got briefed. big effing deal. it’s not like you’re ever going to do anything about America’s massive gun problem. we might as well have a malevolent orange paperweight as president

Beat me to it! As an Australian, I urge America to adopt sensible gun laws ASAP!

Ok, you wrote this tweet at around 4:30pm. Guessing you have already moved beyond thoughts and prayers, and monitoring the situation, to your call with the NRA. Bottom line, you will do nothing.

Thoughts and prayers. God how That phrase embodies the very soul of ‘don’t care how many kids, cops, are shot. the NRA loves me!’

Please don’t ever say you support law enforcement ever again. 2 officers slaughtered this week already and it’s only Tuesday.

The victims don’t need “thoughts and prayers”
The victims need the Republican-controlled Senate to pass common sense gun control legislation

Nice, the POTUS can’t even be bothered to put together a few sentences of condolences for American citizens who are victims of gun violence, just copies & pastes. https://t.co/SqxChoursW

Make no mistake, Trump and the GOP have blood on their hands. They’ve had years to pass legislation to prevent gun violence, but they refuse to do so because the NRA controls them. People are dying, and it seems that “thoughts and prayers” is just code for “we don’t give a damn.”
It’s time to elect a president and a Congress that actually does give a damn.
