Welp! It looks like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is somewhat taking the coronavirus pandemic in his state seriously after it struck a Republican-dominated retirement community this week.

A community known as The Villages is home to tens of thousands of Republican retirees, many of whom voted for Trump in 2016 and continue to support him now. DeSantis is also a Trump fan, and he refuses to institute a lockdown in the state despite the coronavirus ripping through the country.

So far, cases in the United States have topped 100,000 and over 1,500 are dead, including 3,000 cases and 34 deaths in Florida.

If extreme measures are not taken soon, the death toll there will rise, especially since the state is a popular retirement destination and the elderly are most at risk.

Well, now the pandemic has struck in The Villages.

According to Politico:

At least five residents from The Villages have contracted the coronavirus through community spread or close contact with someone else who had the virus, according to the Florida Department of Health in Sumter County. The Villages is a rapidly growing retirement community of more than 50,000 residents that spans three north central Florida counties. Most of the community is in Sumter County, where 29 people have tested positive for the virus as of Friday.

And DeSantis quickly responded to the plight of The Villages by giving them the supplies they needed.

The Villages last week became one of the first locations in the state to receive a 250-bed mobile hospital from the Florida Division of Emergency Services. Gov. Ron DeSantis opened a mobile testing site in The Villages on Monday through a partnership with University of Florida Health.

One might wonder if DeSantis would have given the same treatment to a Democratic community considering how Trump is currently treating blue states during this crisis?

Nevertheless, Republicans in Florida are about to experience the hell states like New York and California are dealing with right now, and all because they agree with Trump that it’s not a big deal and that the elderly should die for the economy. Clearly, that’s unless those elderly citizens vote Republican.
