Donald Trump once again targeted the House January 6th Committee in a new vitriolic statement just days after ranting and raving at a Texas rally, this time demanding that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and former Vice President Mike Pence be investigated.

Just days after incriminating himself in the scheme to overthrow democracy, threatening to unleash his violent supporters upon those investigating him, and dangling pardons for the insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol on January 6th, Trump raged against the House Select Committee that is probing the insurrection.

In a statement posted on Twitter, which still somehow does not violate Twitter rules since Trump is supposed to be banned from the platform, Trump insisted Pence had every right to overturn the 2020 Election.

“So pathetic to watch the Unselect Committee of political hacks, liars, and traitors work so feverishly to alter the Electoral College Act so that a Vice President cannot ensure the honest results of the election, when just one year ago they said that ‘the Vice President has absolutely no right to ensure the true outcome or results of an election. The Vice President did have this right or, more pointedly, could have sent the votes back to various legislators for reassessment after so much fraud and irregularities were found.”

Trump and his campaign filed dozens of frivolous lawsuits alleging election fraud, only for even his own appointed judges to shoot them down one by one for lacking any evidence. In fact, Trump’s own Homeland Security cyber chief called the 2020 Election the most secure in American history. No evidence of fraud has been found unless you count the fraud committed by Republicans on Trump’s behalf.

Trump went on to blame Pelosi for the breach of the Capitol by his own supporters.

“If it were sent back to the legislators, or if Nancy Pelosi, who is in charge of Capitol security, had taken my recommendation and substantially increased security, there would have been no ‘January 6’ as we know it!” Trump said.

Of course, Trump supporters outnumbered Capitol Police by a wide margin. And Trump watched the insurrection unfold for three hours before finally letting the National Guard intervene. This attack mirrors a similar one by one of Trump’s congressional cronies who was rejected as a nominee to serve on the committee. It was false then and it’s still false now.

Trump concluded by calling for the committee to investigate Pelosi and Pence and repeated his claim that Pence had the right to overturn the election.

The Constitution makes it clear that the Vice President is only charged with counting the electors. There is no such power to reject election results, nor is there a power to send the electors back to the states. As usual, Trump is lying and has nothing but disdain for what the Constitution really says.
