Insurrectionist Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.) finally went too far by accusing members of his own party of doing drugs and attending orgies, which is why Senator Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) is officially endorsing Cawthorn’s primary challenger.

Cawthorn’s previous despicable behavior includes aiding the January 6th Capitol insurrection and inciting future violence if the GOP doesn’t get their way in the next election, not to mention his demonstrated ignorance of history and science as well as his loyalty to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

Despite that behavior, the Republican Party continued to support Cawthorn. But after he spilled the beans on unnamed Republicans who apparently like snorting cocaine and engaging in orgies, that was the final straw.

Putting aside the fact that Republicans are only punishing Cawthorn now because he is attacking his own party, his accusations have had the effect of torpedoing his own chances of winning re-election. Not just re-election, but even surviving a primary challenge.

On that point, Senator Thoma Tillis (R-N.C.) officially endorsed Cawthorn’s primary challenger, state Senator Charles Edwards (R), in a statement.

“The 11th Congressional District deserves a congressman who is fully dedicated to serving their constituents,” Tillis wrote. “Unfortunately, Madison Cawthorn has fallen well short of the most basic standards Western North Carolina expects from their representatives, and voters now have several well-qualified candidates to choose from who would be a significant improvement.”

“He’ll never embarrass Western North Carolina with a consistent pattern of juvenile behavior, outlandish statements, and untruthfulness,” Tillis continued, going on to note that Edwards won’t support Putin over Ukraine either and called Cawthorn a wannabe celebrity who hasn’t done anything in Congress worth bragging about.

Here’s his full statement via Twitter:

This is bad news for Cawthorn. But Republicans should be ashamed of themselves for putting his name on the ballot in the first place. It’s pathetic that they are only now opposing him because he made accusations against unnamed members of the party. Had he made such accusations against Democrats, Republicans would have ignored him. So, let’s chalk this up to Cawthorn finally telling the truth and Republicans being butthurt about more of their unseemly secrets being revealed. After all, Cawthorn is not the only Republican who should be removed from office.
