Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) lashed out against the impeachment of President Donald Trump during his appearance on Fox News Friday night in the wake of House manager Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) using his own words on impeachment from 1999 against him this week.

Graham has openly stated that he will vote to acquit Trump regardless of the evidence and witness testimony presented during the trial, which has been strong and damning.

The most damning blow to the defense offered by Trump’s legal team, however, is Graham’s 1999 words as a House manager during the impeachment trial of former President Bill Clinton when he said that the president can be impeached for something that is not a crime.

“What’s a high crime?” Graham asked. “How about if an important person hurt somebody of low means? It’s not very scholarly, but I think it’s the truth. I think that’s what they meant by high crimes. Doesn’t have to be a crime. It’s just when you start using your office and you’re acting in a way that hurts people, you’ll have committed a high crime.”

Trump’s lawyers have argued that he should be acquitted because abuse of power is not a crime, a claim refuted by legal experts.

But all Nadler needed was Graham’s own words.

“There are many reasons why high crimes and misdemeanors are not and cannot be limited to violations of the criminal code,” Nadler argued after showing the Senate a clip of Graham’s remarks. “We address them at length in the briefs we have filed and the report of the House Judiciary Committee respecting these articles of impeachment.”

And so, it’s no wonder why Graham lost it during an interview with Sean Hannity on Friday night, first by demanding that former Vice President Joe Biden be investigated after the impeachment trial is over and even went so far as to say he would rather leave the country instead of live in a place where Trump is investigated and Biden isn’t.

Graham then went on to claim that Trump’s attempt to extort Ukraine into announcing an investigation of Biden is “good government” even though it’s been proven that Trump had no intention of really investigating corruption because he knows no corruption actually exists.

He then claimed that every business deal Trump has ever made has been investigated.

That’s not true either, but whenever Trump’s business deals have been investigated, he’s usually found guilty or settles. Most recently, Trump was ordered to pay millions of dollars in restitution to those hurt by his Trump University scam. And his charity was closed for being a fraud and he has been slapped with a $2 million fine.

Trump also committed several acts of obstruction during the Russia investigation as listed by the Mueller report and there are still multiple investigations pending.

Clearly, Graham has overstayed his welcome in the Senate and it’s little wonder why his Democratic opponent has caught him in the polls.
