According to Missouri GOP Senator Roy Blount, there’s absolutely no need to impeach or remove President Donald Trump from office even though he encouraged his supporters to storm the U.S Capitol and riot earlier this week, leaving five people — including a police officer — dead.

Why does Blount feel this way? Because he’s convinced that Trump has learned his lesson and would never ever do such a thing again.

Appearing on “Face the Nation” Sunday, the Missouri Republican told host Margaret Brennan:

“I think the country is the right way to hold presidents accountable. He should be very careful over the next 10 days that his behavior is what you would expect from the leader of the greatest country in the world. My personal view is that he touched a hot stove on Wednesday and is unlikely to touch it again. If that is the case, every day we get closer to the last day of his presidency, we should think more about the first day of the next presidency the last day of his in my view.”

Blount is almost as delusional as Trump himself. Neither of them has learned a damn thing over the past four years, and the GOP’s failure to rein Trump in has led to him believing that no matter what he does, there won’t be any consequences. It’s that failure that has put the country at risk even though the incumbent president only has 10 days left in office.

Every Republican who refuses to call for and work toward removing Trump from the White House ASAP should be soundly defeated by his or her constituents. The GOP needs to go the way of the Whigs and cease to exist.
