Former Vice President Mike Pence will likely not be disgraced former President Donald Trump’s running mate in 2024 if he should run again, but America won’t like who Trump picks either because he’s considering his daughter Ivanka.

Let’s start by making it crystal clear that Americans flatly rejected the idea of having a monarchy, an aspect of which is that the king or queen is replaced by a bloodline heir, usually a child. The founding fathers were horrified by the prospect of our country being governed by monarchical rule. But 74 million Americans were apparently just fine with letting Trump be a dictator, and now he might be taking yet another step in that direction by possibly naming Ivanka as his running mate for 2024.

According to a recent report, Trump could be considering Ivanka as a way to kick off her own political career.

[Trump could be] “pretending to consider Ivanka, Don Jr., and ‘budding politician Lara’ before going with the only adult child he’s ever loved, who no doubt sees herself as the obvious choice. (Ivanka and her husband, Jared Kushner, have reportedly been plotting to make her the first woman president for several years now, so presumably she’d see this as a logical stepping stone.),” Ed Kilgore wrote for New York Magazine.

In this way, he’s have a vice president who would absolutely do his bidding, regardless of legality and constitutional limitations. Had Ivanka been vice president on January 6th instead of Pence, she would have tried to declare her father the winner of the 2020 Election.

Of course, this is a nightmare scenario because Trump would be setting up his daughter to take power after him, whether he dies in office or names her as his clear successor to the GOP nomination in the next election in 2028.

But this is not how our government is supposed to work. Power is not supposed to be concentrated in the hands of a single family. It’s true that our country has seen two father-son duos in the presidency before— John Adams and John Quincy Adams, and George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush— but the sons were not their father’s vice president. They carved their own paths to the highest office in the land. It was not just handed to them. Of course, Ivanka is used to having everything handed to her by daddy, so she probably thinks she’s entitled to the presidency, too.

Ivanka was useless as a White House aide, having been hired to the position by her father in an act of nepotism that stunned and disgusted the country. She’s likely to be just as useless in the vice presidency or presidency as well. It would be disastrous for our nation and a death blow to democracy in the world. This is a family that should never again hold political power. The stakes are simply too high.
