Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) may have to face serious legal consequences for transporting undocumented immigrants across state lines and dumping them in Massachusetts as part of a pathetic political stunt.
50 migrants landed in Martha’s Vineyard in a ploy by the Donald Trump protege to make it seem like there’s an invasion at the southern border, an imaginary crisis Republicans have been repeating for years to scare Americans.
Well, the problem, which also applies to Texas Governor Gregg Abbott (R) as well since he has also been transporting migrants across state lines to Chicago, New York, and Washington DC, is that both governors are engaging in human trafficking and what they are doing is a violation of federal law.
According to the Justice Department, Title 8, U.S.C. 1324 states that “any person who — knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that an alien has come to, entered, or remains in the United States in violation of law, transports, or moves or attempts to transport or move such alien within the United States by means of transportation or otherwise,” is violating established law. It’s also a human trafficking and kidnapping violation.
As such, calls are intensifying for an investigation and prosecution.
“Perla, the frontwoman for a depraved stunt by Florida governor and presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis,” should be investigated together with DeSantis for conspiracy to kidnap and engage in human trafficking. https://t.co/ZkFoGUlbzV

We just watched Ron DeSantis & Greg Abbott violate Federal Laws in broad daylight — then brag about it on TV. Glenn Kirschner said it last night: they should be charged with ‘kidnapping by inveiglement.’ These Migrants deserve hard justice for the crimes committed against them.

“You know I never go anywhere without my big ugly blue book of laws.” @glennkirschner2 reads the definition of kidnapping for us, which he says could be applied to the stunt by Govs Abbott & DeSantis who allegedly deceived migrants in order to move them across state lines. pic.twitter.com/NkRvlf2F7r

In addition, the lawyer representing the migrants are also demanding an investigation and legal action in a letter to the U.S. Attorney of Massachusetts.
“While we are working to protect our clients’ rights in immigration proceedings and exploring remedies for civil rights violations, we also strongly believe that criminal laws were broken by the perpetrators of this stunt,” the letter states. “We therefore ask that you open a criminal investigation into this matter.”
“The perpetrators targeted our clients based on race and national origin in order to make the political point they wanted,” the letter continued. “They preyed on the vulnerability of our clients – many of whom had suffered deep trauma in their home countries and on their journeys to the United States – and exploited this vulnerability to win trust through false promises.”
It’s time for the Justice Department to drop the hammer on DeSantis and Abbott. Both of them are violating federal law. They must face the consequences.
