Disgraced outgoing President Donald Trump could be the first president ever impeached twice as lawmakers prepare new articles of impeachment in response to Trump instigating insurrection, a terrorist act against the Capitol so badly handled that the heads of top police brass are beginning to roll.

The attempted coup occurred as Congress tried to fulfill its duty to count the electoral votes and certify the results. Trump supporters stormed the building in an effort to hunt down members, looting and vandalizing the historic halls and offices in the process while injuring police officers who did little to stand in their way.

Trump and his band of goons have been condemned ever since by members of both parties, with many calling for him to be impeached or to be removed via triggering the 25th Amendment.

On Thursday, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) introduced the articles of impeachment.

“I invite you to join me in introducing a resolution to impeach Donald John Trump, President of the United States, for high crimes and misdemeanors,” she wrote in a letter to her colleagues. “Once again, Trump has violated his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of the President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States. Every single hour that Donald Trump remains in office, our country, our democracy, and our national security remain in danger. Congress must take immediate action to keep the people of this country safe and set a precedent that such behavior cannot be tolerated.”

Indeed, Trump should not be allowed to finish his term despite there only being 12 days until President-Elect Joe Biden is inaugurated. Trump should be impeached, and the House appears poised to pass the articles just like they did just over a year ago in response to Trump’s attempt to extort Ukraine into interfering with the election.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) did not mince words on Thursday when she demanded Trump be removed from office.

“Yesterday, the President of the United States incited an armed insurrection against America,” Pelosi said. “In calling for this seditious act, the president has committed and unspeakable assault on our nation and our people. I join the Senate Democratic leader in calling on the vice president to remove this president by immediately invoking the 25th Amendment. If the vice president and cabinet do not act, the Congress may be prepared to move forward with impeachment. That is the overwhelming sentiment of my caucus — and the American people, by the way.”

In addition, heads are starting to roll among top police brass, with the House Sergeant-at-Arms resigning in the aftermath of failing to stop Trump’s terrorists and is calling for the Capitol Police Chief to resign as well. The Senate Sergeant-at-Arms should also look for a new job because Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) is demanding his resignation or he will be fired once he takes over as Senate Majority Leader.

Congressional police officers and Capitol Police failed to do their duty. Members of Congress could have been killed had the insurrectionists possessed firearms. Clearly, it would have been all too easy to overrun the Capitol and commit an act of mass murder because these officers refused to do their job and basically let Trump supporters bust through the windows and doors. That makes these police officers just as guilty of insurrection. Because if they really stood for law and order, not a single Trump supporter would have made it inside the building.

The only ones seemingly standing in the way of Trump being impeached are Senate Republicans, who have a duty to remove Trump from office now so he can never run for office again. He needs to pay for his crimes, and letting him off the hook would be even more unacceptable this time considering how they’ve reacted in disgust to his behavior. No more slaps on the wrist. Impeach him.
