Of all the monstrous consequences of the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, a 10-year-old girl in Ohio is being denied an abortion, and South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem (R) appears to have no problem with it.

The 10-year-old rape victim was found to be six weeks pregnant, but because of her state’s anti-abortion trigger law that went into effect after the fall of Roe v. Wade, she was denied an abortion. So, she has to travel out of state to get the care she needs. If Republicans had their way, abortion would be outlawed across the country, therefore, they would force this 10-year-old girl to give birth or face legal repercussions.

When asked about the situation on Sunday during an interview on CNN, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem tried to evade answering Dana Bash’s question on whether 10-year-old girls should be forced to give birth by condemning the rape.

“What is incredible, Dana, in this tragic story, because I heard about this last night, what is incredible is no one is talking about the pervert, horrible, deranged individual that raped a 10-year-old. What are we doing about that?” Noem said.

Yes, the rapist should be punished, but the little girl should not be punished either. She should not be forced to give birth to her rapist’s baby. Noem claimed that she’s “never okay with that,” but flip-flopped in her next statement.

“Every single life is precious,” Noem said. “This tragedy is horrific. I can’t even imagine. I’ve never had anybody in my family or myself gone through anything like this. I can’t even imagine. But in South Dakota, the law today is that the abortions are illegal except to save the life of the mother.”

Pregnancy is life-threatening to a 10-year-old girl. That is indisputable. Yet Noem continued spouting anti-abortion rhetoric to justify denying that girl the abortion care she needs.

“I would say I don’t believe a tragic situation should be perpetuated by another tragedy,” Noem disgustingly said. “There’s more we have to do to make sure we are living a life to say every life is precious, especially innocent lives that have been shattered like that 10-year-old girl.”

In short, Noem is okay with shattering the life of a 10-year-old girl by forcing her to carry a forced pregnancy to term and risk dying in the process. An embryo the size of a bean is clearly more important to Noem.
