As disgraced outgoing President Donald Trump seeks military honors such as a 21-gun salute on his final day in office, the Pentagon is denying him an honor that every president starting with Reagan has received.

Trump reportedly intends to use the military as a prop one last time on his way out the door in a farewell ceremony of his own planning during a stop at Joint Base Andrews on his way to Mar-a-Lago on the morning of Inauguration Day.

But the Pentagon seems to be pushing back on the idea in the wake of the failed insurrection at the Capitol that Trump instigated in an attempt to overthrow democracy and stay in power, something he’s still trying to do.

According to Defense One, the Pentagon won’t be holding an official Armed Forces Tribute ceremony for Trump like the military had done for the previous five commanders-in-chief.

Trump will leave office in disgrace, one week after the House voted a second time for his impeachment, two weeks after his supporters staged a deadly siege in the Capitol Building, six months after he dragged his Joint Chiefs chairman into a political firestorm, and after four years of nonstop assaults on truth. One of those disgraces is how he is ghosting the U.S. troops that he commanded.

On Wednesday, the White House announced that this weekend Vice President Mike Pence “will deliver remarks to sailors on the Trump Administration’s historic foreign policy achievements at Naval Air Station Lemoore,” and then to the 10th Mountain Division, in Fort Drum, New York. Two senior defense officials confirmed to Defense One on Thursday that no military farewell is being planned for the commander in chief.

It makes perfect sense. After all, why would the military want to pay tribute to a traitor? It’s also not like Trump actually gives a damn about the lives of the men and women in uniform. If he had his way, he would be using them right now to stage a coup. He let Russia place bounties on their heads. He referred to dead soldiers as “suckers” and “losers” and skipped ceremonies honoring fallen heroes. He’s also a five-time draft dodger.

The Pentagon should not only deny him this traditional ceremony, it should deny any request he makes for military honors. No 21-gun salute. No military flyovers. No military bands. Trump deserves to be shunned by the military, not honored. He betrayed our country and the Constitution, therefore, he betrayed the troops who swore an oath to defend both with their lives, something Trump cowardly refused to do while having the gall to attack veterans who sacrificed.

Treat him like a coward. Treat him like a traitor. Turn your backs on him and tell him to go away. Because scorn and shame is all he deserves.
