In a statement that should be replayed over and over again in campaign ads ahead of the 2022 midterm election, Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) admitted that his party wants nothing but chaos and obstruction in Congress for the next 18 months.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has made it clear that he intends to block 100 percent of any legislative aim President Joe Biden tries to push through Congress. As we have seen with the bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6th Capitol insurrection, Republicans are even willing to block bills they had agreed to support.

That’s why when Biden announced an infrastructure deal with a bipartisan group of senators last month, he also kept the door open to passing a superior Democratic infrastructure bill using reconciliation.

Of course, Republicans are whining about it, but Roy went even further by admitting that Republicans only stand for chaos and obstruction at the expense of the American people.

“The people who were working to cut the deal, by the way, were not your conservative warriors in the Senate. And so they’re cutting a deal, but then Biden, who came out and said, ‘We have a deal,’ allowed Pelosi to basically kind of step in and go, ‘Whoop, no you don’t.’ You’re only gonna get that deal if you have reconciliation with all this liberal garbage,” Roy said in a video according to CNN.

“And then Biden said, ‘OK, yeah.’ And they kind of backed away from the deal,” Roy continued. “Then he kind of came back away from the veto threat, so nobody knows what anybody’s gonna do right now. That’s the thing. This is the problem. I actually say, thank the Lord. Eighteen more months of chaos and the inability to get stuff done. That’s what we want.”

Again, Republicans have pulled the rug out from under Democrats before by faking support for a bill only to vote against it. Democrats understandably don’t trust Republicans, therefore they are keeping the other infrastructure bill on the table.

Roy even doubled down on his statement.

“For the next 18 months, Republicans’ job is to do everything that we can to slow down and block the Democrats’ radical agenda, and then win the majority and lead,” he said.

To be clear, the Democrats’ “radical agenda” includes affordable child care for American families, paycheck fairness for women, voting rights protection and election security, and several other measures that help the American people. This is what Republicans want to block. So, if Americans want these things to pass, and the polls say they overwhelmingly do, the only option is to vote Republicans out of office and give Democrats a bigger majority in the Senate and House so things this country needs can finally get done. Because we all know Republicans will only use their power to help themselves and the rich.
